Extensive Training and Experience
Being dual degree DDS and MD, (Doctor of Dental Surgery & Medical Doctor) Dr. Barefoot is well-prepared to appropriately administer local anesthesia, all forms of sedation and general anesthesia. He is experienced in airway management, endotracheal intubation, establishing and maintaining intravenous lines, and managing complications and emergencies that may arise during the administration of anesthesia.
Before your surgery, Dr. Barefoot will review the type of anesthetic to be used, as well as the way you're likely to feel during and after the operation. This is the time to discuss any concerns you may have about any facet of the operation. Usually, patients describe their feelings during surgery as comfortable and surprisingly pleasant. After surgery, you may be prescribed a medication to make you as comfortable as possible when you get home.
Exparel®️ for Controlling Your Pain After Surgery
As the opioid crisis remains heightened and continues to threaten many aspects of our lives on personal and societal levels, measures to resist and prevent furthering the crisis should be greatly considered when treating patients. At Barefoot Oral & Facial Surgery, we use a medication called Exparel to help control your pain after surgery, promoting a healthy recovery that is not dependent on opioids.
Exparel is used by numbing the pain where the surgery is performed and slowly releases a medication (local anesthetic) called bupivacaine. This slow, targeted release enables Exparel to provide long-lasting pain relief after surgery with just one dose. Even though everyone experiences pain differently, most patients who receive Exparel have demonstrated pain relief during the first few days after surgery. It can provide relief for various types of surgery, particularly with wisdom teeth and jaw surgery within the realm of oral and maxillofacial health care.
Alongside being treated by our caring and professional team at Barefoot Oral & Facial Surgery, you can expect to encounter these types of benefits when being treated with Exparel:
- It is not an opioid and is not addictive, which means there is no risk of withdrawal.
- It is a one-dose medication that your doctor uses during surgery, so there are no follow-up doses.
- It is clinically proven to reduce the amount of pain during recovery, which means you can wait to fill any pain prescription medications until you truly need it, saving you money.
